Self-love, like self-care is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot, and as a result is often misunderstood. Self-love is a deeper appreciation and connectedness with yourself as you are.  Here are 5 tips to cultivate more feelings of self-love into your life:

Silent inner self-critic

See yourself for who you are, and don’t pay attention to what other people say. Everybody is different, so your idea of ‘perfect’ will definitely differ from someone else’s – so stop trying to compare the two. We all have our own “to-do” list that seems to never end, but must also recognize the things we’ve done. At the end of the day, make a list (either mental or write it out) of the productive things you’ve done that day. Did you nurture a relationship? Do the laundry? Complete a work assignment? No matter how small, you deserve a pat on the back.

Eat Healthily and Mindfully

Too often we eat our meals while multitasking, which often means you’re left to compromise on experience. Think about it, would you work at the computer while having dinner with a friend or loved one? Make sure you carve time out each day to allow yourself the time to indulge in nourishing meal without any distractions.

Unplug

There is a whole other world that exists at the touch of a button. And although social media does warrant some merits such as connecting with old friends, keeping up with current events, or sharing your experiences with your friends and followers. I dare to ask, does it really make you feel better?  More often than not,  people tend to use these platforms to only report on their success, and so it can be challenging when you’re comparing your entire life to everyone’s highlight reels. Take the time to break away from social media, and allow yourself to focus on the beauty of the moment.

Make authentic decisions

One way to increase your self-esteem instantly is by making the right decisions based on your beliefs and values. Feeling good about the decisions you’re making can help you feel good about you, too. When you use your moral compass to guide your decisions, you gain confidence and certainty in yourself and what you bring to table.

Get some fresh air

You’ve likely heard before that a little sunshine can take you a long way. Well, turns out this is very true of your self-esteem as well — getting some sunshine can literally brighten your day, especially when you’re being active while soaking up the rays. Studies have proved that even some activity outdoors for just five minutes can improve self-esteem. This could mean something quick and simple, like a walk around your office building or a short bike ride.
