A chakra is an energy wheel in the body, we have seven of these which go from the base of the spine to just above our head. It is so important to keep the energy within our chakras balanced, for this optimises emotional, physical, spiritual and mental health.
The throat chakra, also known as the Vishuddha is located in the neck and throat – it is the centre of your communication relating to both hearing and speaking. It is about accepting your originality, expressing your authentic voice and speaking your truth. It’s important to know that doubt and negative thinking have huge impacts on the energy of the throat chakra – so keep exploring your knowledge through meditation and experience… This will remove both doubt and negativity.
When your throat chakra is overactive or blocked you might experience a lack of being able to express yourself, blockages can also lead to physical pain in the head, mouth, throat and neck. The most common symptoms include a sore throat, frequent headaches, ulcers, laryngitis, thyroid problems and hoarseness. Since learning how linked our bodies and minds are, I now make sure that if ever I have a sore throat I check in with what I might be finding hard to communicate… and more often than not, once I’m able to get to the bottom of this the pain subsides!
