A chakra is an energy wheel in the body, we have seven of these which go from the base of the spine to just above our head. It is so important to keep the energy within our chakras balanced, for this optimises emotional, physical, spiritual and mental health.
The Heart Chakra, also known as the Anahata (which means unhurt), is located in your chest… right by your heart and includes the thymus gland, breasts and lungs. It is the chakra of love, warmth and compassion and is the centre of all deep bonds with other people and your feelings of self love, generosity, respect and kindness.
All relationships are energies exchanged so it is really important that you make an effort to keep the heart chakra healthy.
When the heart chakra is in balance you’ll be filled with a sense of love and compassion and will be quick to forgive and accepting of yourself and others.Contrary to this, when your heart chakra is low on energy you may feel angry or jealous and have hatred towards yourself and others.
When your Heart Chakra is out of balance and under-active, you might experience:LonelinessFeeling withdrawnA lack of empathyThe inability to forgiveMaking decisions with your head, not with your heart
In reverse, when your heart chakra is overactive, you might experience:CodependencyJealousyBeing overly demanding of othersFeeling victimised
Interestingly enough there are also some physical signs that your Heart Chakra may be out of balance, these include upper back, shoulder, arm and wrist pain.
The energy in your heart chakra needs to be able to move freely and in order for it to do this you must:Surround yourself with the colour green and spend some time in naturePractice yogaVisualise green light pouring into your heartPerform random acts of kindnessSmile at everyone, it’s contagiousBe forgiving, life’s too short for grudgesCompliment the people around youStop all criticism (including self criticism) for one week
